We are now accepting orders for our 2018 Alleghany 4-H Fall Plant Sale.  


The following types of plants are being offered for purchase:

  • Succulents
Payment is due at the time orders are placed.  **We accept credit/debit cards for payment.  Phone orders can and will be accepted with a credit/debit card purchase**

PLANT PICKUP DATES:
Tuesday & Wednesday, October 23rd & 24th (9am - 5pm)

ALL proceeds are used to provide scholarship opportunities for Alleghany County youth to attend 4-H Camp and other 4-H and Extension programming.

You may pick up an order form at the Extension Office or you can print an online version.

NC Trees and Me Video Contest

In honor of North Carolina's Arbor Day, the NC Urban Forestry Council (NCUFC) is asking for video submissions for their 2018 NC Trees and Me video Contest.

Contest submissions will be short videos (15 to 90 seconds) that answer the question, “What do trees mean to me?”.  Prizes will be awarded to the individual(s) or group(s) whose video submission receives the most online votes. The Grand Prize winner will receive $200, and the Runner Up Winner will receive $50. Both videos will also be featured on NCUFC’s website and social media platforms in honor of Arbor Day and beyond.

Submissions will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. ET on March 14, 2018

Diabetes Today / Apple of My Eye

Make plans to join us on Tuesday, October 3rd from 12:00pm - 1:00pm at the Alleghany Wellness Center as we learn some helpful information about diabetes and your daily life and sample some delicious apple recipes.  Dr. Logan Oliver will share information on the importance of eye health.  Call the Extension Office at 336-372-5597 to register.

Farm to Table Educational Opportunity

Join us at the Alleghany Wellness Center on Wednesday, September 27th from 11 am until 1 pm for an educational opportunity to learn about the Alleghany Local Food Initiative.  You will have an opportunity to meet local producers and purchase local products while enjoying heavy hors d’oeuvres.


It is FREE to attend, but spaces are limited and you MUST have a ticket.  Tickets are available at the Cooperative Extension Office and the Alleghany Farmers Market.  For more information, contact 336-372-5597.

Farm to Table 4th of July Parade

The parade is on for Saturday, July 1July 1st and the theme is Farm to Table.  The Sparta Revitalization Committee is hoping that farmers will participate by bringing their tractors, animals, trees, or whatever they would like to "parade" that day. 

Floats meet at NAPCO parking lot. Walkers and animals meet at parking lot beside auditorium on Charles Street. Cars meet in front of SES. If you plan to participate, please register ahead of time at SRC/Chamber office 336-372-5473 and ask for Sarah.
